Now everyone knows (because it’s not a trade secret) I have loved the birth world since I learned all about it at the time of my puberty. I have always had a bit more weight than “recommended” now for the longest time I believed that if you were overweight you weren’t going to be able to get pregnant (I was quite young remember this when reading this.) I was worried that I would never get to bear a child like other celebrities who were of “average” weight. This made me worried for what would come in my future and if all my dreams would be shattered of being a mother. I have been bullied for my weight and have always been insecure about how I look. For a long time (until the past year) I would only wear a size up and the baggier the better. With pregnancy your body changes and if you are anything like me ^ … I was/am insecure so how would it work with pregnancy. You have more weight, you do get bigger. How can you stay positive if the world (social media, or people in the streets) is saying cruel things? “Damn, you giving birth to teenagers?”“Wow, bout to have a litter”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀“Respect your body. What is Uterine Rupture? “Uterine rupture occurs when the wall of the uterus splits during pregnancy or labour. This usually happens along the scar of a previous c-section.” Quoted from a Handout from the Ontario Midwives. But what is the risk of uterine rupture? What is the percentage normally? “The average risk of uterine rupture is 0.7 percent. That goes up to 0.9 to 1 percent if you are induced with Pitocin and 1.4 to 1.8 percent with prostaglandin.” Quoted from Utswmed. Now, something that I thought was very interesting was the note that American Pregnancy quoted on ACOG was the following: “Recently, ACOG stated that VBAC is safer than a repeat cesarean, and VBAC with more than one previous cesarean does not pose an increased risk.” An article from Lamaze.org pointed out another incredible fact about the c-section and the numbers that circle around VBACS. “…we find that the risk of scar rupture in a VBAC labor was 2 per 1000 VBAC labors versus 0.3 per 1000 planned repeat caesareans, or roughly 2 more scar ruptures per 1000 VBAC labors, not the large difference that ‘seven times greater’ suggests.” There are quite a few of different articles that exist around the statistics and vbacs. In the end, you have to do decide if a repeat c-section is something you want. Your doctors can’t force you to have a c-section it’s a choice. And if your doctor doesn’t agree. Of course, listen to your doctor and do what YOU believe is right for you and your body. JournalingYou should de-stress by keeping a journal or at least at the time of most worry right down all the things that are bothering you. Whatever things you have control over or can change put a mark beside it. The things you can’t circle them. No matter what you do you can’t change those things. With that in mind move on to the next thing. Meditation/PrayerWhoever you pray to maybe pray with the things you can’t change into attendance. If not meditate and learn to allow nature to come over, you. Put good things only into the universe. MassageNow, this is more money-oriented, but you could consider getting a massage. Something to help your body de-stress in a calming environment with a nice massage. Unless you can get someone from your family to give you one. Peppermint TeaPeppermint contains menthol which allows your body to relax because it is a muscle relaxant and sedative. Having a support network is so very important. When having a family or anything seriously major in your life you should be able to have a supportnetwork to lean on. There are so many times in life we go through something major, maybe someone in the family gets sick, someone passesaway, someone gets married, or if someone is starting a family. All these events require people’s support. We hear the saying “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” I believe it takes a village in a lot of things. But if you don’t want a “village” of people how about a team? Baseball, basketball, hockey. Whatever team you dream of let’s get a play-by-play. One- The Coach This is the one person you will call NO matter what to help you out! Whether this be your partner, your mom or dad, your siblings, your best friend, cousin. Anyone who will drop everything and help you the best way they can. Two- Team Players These are the people who can support you at different times. When we do postpartum planning, we always state that parents should pick some people they can call when at a breaking point. Why not have that for when you are trying to conceive? Or what about when you are trying to get married (i.e. Your wedding party) What about when you are entering menopause? Three- Cheerleaders You need people to cheer you on, keep you positive when things feel tough. You need people to tell you its okay. People to talk, vent and just allow your emotions to be set free. Don’t be held tightly in a bun inside yourself. Let it all out with your cheerleaders. Four- The Mascot The Mascot has a very interesting role. You have something to distract you and keep you entertained and out of your head. You can be distracted with the Mascot and you need that in your support team as well. Someone to distract you from worrying about when the baby will come or when you’re not feeling well from menopause symptoms. You need to be distracted from certain things in life. Five- The Team Doctor (Optional) Normally the team has a doctor. – Or they don’t and that’s okay, we all have different people on our team. Someone to take care of you in these different times. With your fertility, with your menopause, or even your pregnancy you need a good doctor or midwife. Someone that you can trust and lean on. Do you have someone that you can trust to support you with your choices?
