dou·la /ˈdo͞olə/ – comes from the ancient Greek term meaning a woman who serves.
We are often thought of as midwives but as I like to tell people is, I am a birth coach. I did a series back in the day where we are so much. Just like the mother who has multiple jobs I refer to it as such.
We are like cheerleaders, educators, allies, guides, comforters, and team builders.
But not only that we have training and experience in birth, pregnancy, postpartum, fertility, and so much more. For me specifically, I am taking extra training in nutrition, essential oils, menopause and bereavement, and lactation counselor.
