I understand money problems. It does exist and people think that having a doula is only for those who have this luxurious understanding!
I did a vendor event and what I was hearing was I have an OB or a Midwife. Well… I am different than those people. I am supportive.
Explaining that for 6 hours straight, 2 days in a row was harsh on my vocal cords, to say the least. It was a wonderful experience though.
Now maybe some people really don’t think they need a doula if they have an OB or midwife. But the support is something people don’t have much of. But if they do, they can always use more.
Now some doulas are more expensive and that is okay. But this doula understands your struggles. I try to keep my prices lower that families can actually use this support.
Why would you spend money on a doula?
You save yourself time and energy and so much extra support that sometimes family can’t provide. Unbiased support is what we provide. If you want an epidural that is great, if you want to circumcise that is your choice and we support you. If you want a home birth, GO FOR IT!
Now with Covid-19, we aren’t allowed in the hospitals, so I see many people believe that they don’t need a doula anymore because you don’t get the same hands-on support. But that’s not the case.
Our support can come in many shapes and forms and as I see the times rolling that doulas are doing their best to stay active and ready and at attention to their clients, and clients are turning them away.
The support stays the same but in a different way. We can still face time the whole birth and have the presence of its entirety. I may not be able to give my hands the way I wish, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t get the same words from my mouth, the instructions for the partner.
We aren’t a luxury! We are fundamental! Support is support regardless of physical, informational, or emotional. We are there for you.
